Silk Maxi Dresses, Handwoven and Hand-Painted
Each silk maxi dress here begins as cloth. The silk is handwoven, then painted or embroidered by hand over many hours before it is cut and constructed. Some pieces carry brushwork laid down across days of painting. Others hold their character in the weave itself, in the small variations only a loom leaves behind. Clothing shaped by time, material and many hands. Made slowly. Worn often. Kept for years.
Raw silk dresses
Raw silk dresses keep the natural texture of the fibre, the slub and the quiet irregularity that sits in the cloth before anything is smoothed away. The pieces are dyed with azo-free dyes and finished by hand, so no two lengths read exactly alike. You will find the fuller edit of raw silk within the Dresses & Tunics collection.
Silk one piece dresses
A silk one piece dress carries the whole idea of the garment in a single length of cloth. Long, fluid silhouettes with kimono sleeves, frayed edges and hand-painted brushwork, each conceived as a collectible object and made in limited numbers. The making is visible in the hours it holds. On one hand-painted piece, that is 54 hours of painting and 15 hours of construction.
Silk midi dresses
Silk midi dresses sit at a length made to be lived in and returned to, cut from handwoven Eri and mulberry silk. Time is treated as a material in itself, present in the depth that emerges through the process rather than added on at the end.
Silk tops
Beyond dresses, the silk edit runs across the wardrobe, from a hand-painted silk long shirt to an embroidered silk shacket. A silk top brings the same cloth and the same hours to pieces worn every day. Made by hand in India.
FAQ
What kinds of silk are used?
Handwoven Eri silk and mulberry silk, dyed with azo-free dyes. Each length is woven and finished by hand, so natural artisanal variations are part of the garment's character.
What is a raw silk dress?
A dress made from silk in its natural, less-processed state, which keeps the fibre's texture and slub. It reads as matte and characterful rather than uniformly smooth.
How is a hand-painted silk dress made?
The silk is handwoven first, then painted by hand over many hours (on one piece, 54 hours of hand painting followed by 15 hours of construction), before it is cut and sewn.
